Zombie Movie Up On YouTube

November 16th, 2007

OK, the Zombie short-film I did with the After School Specialists is now up on YouTube and can be seen by clicking here. You’ll hear my music throughout, and also see cameos by some of your favorite Hulihees - Todd Marrone, Russell Gellman, and Ron Foligno. I’m also in there as a one-armed zombie, but only for a quick flash in the middle during the “gauntlet” scene (the second zombie that the main character avoids - right after the bloody nurse zombie) - and then again during the end title (seen below - I’m all the way to the left).

This is the film that won us 1st place in the Dogfish Head competition - great stuff!

Best of Used Wigs Radio v.1

November 12th, 2007

As some of you may know, recently the Used Wigs Radio team decided to pull our old shows from iTunes and off the Used Wigs server since we were a bit concerned about the RIAA coming down on people for copyright issues. While 95% of what we did in the past was done with permission, well, we just didn’t want to take any chances going forward. So, shows 1-36 evaporated into thin air.

In some ways that’s a good thing since the first few shows were anything but polished, and now we’ve really hit our stride. However, it does mean that some great guest spots got removed - although now it just gives us a chance to have them back on the show! Still, we didn’t want the celebrity interviews we’ve done to just vanish - so, we’ve got two “Best of Used Wigs Radio Interviews” shows in the can - the first of which can now be downloaded from www.usedwigsradio.com.

The first “Best of” features Todd’s interviews with comedic heavyweights Jim Gaffigan and Mike Birbiglia - tune in and enjoy!

After School Specialists in Rehoboth

November 11th, 2007

So, we (The After School Specialists) just got back from our trip to the Rehoboth Film Festival this weekend in Rehoboth, DE - where we got to see our award winning film “Dogfish Head Day Afternoon Of The Dead” on the big screen! It was a very cool thing to hear my music out loud in a commercial movie theater, and hopefully that’ll be the first time of many. The audience reaction was fantastic, and we were really treated very well - I hope we win first place more often! We had a big entourage with us, and spent last night hanging out with Dogfish Head owner Sam Calagione (who bought us a few pitchers of the 60-Minute IPA…marvelous!) - who I’m happy to report is a fantastic and down to Earth guy, and who should be fervently supported - and various other directors, producers, writers, and actors (there was a lot of “hey, wasn’t the guy from…”).It was great weekend and reward for a lot of hard work, and more than that, a catalyst to keep doing these kinds of things. A few new A.S.S. projects are in the works - stay tuned! Also - the movie will soon be available on the Dofish Head website - I will of course post again when you can view it.

Whoop!

MATTOWAX Music Clips Now Available

November 9th, 2007

Been wondering just what this MATTOWAX project of mine sounds like? Well, wonder no more friends - clips from the new EP are now up on the MATTOWAX site, and can be found on the “Sounds” page. You’ll be able to download 30 second clips of each of the new tunes, as well as a bunch of clips from my back catalog as well as Russell G.’s - that material is also going to be made available through the MATTOWAX name, although it won’t be released officially.

Some nuggest there that you won’t hear anywhere else include clips of the “Ocean Mix” instrumental only version of “Most Likely To Succeed” as well as a newer version of “Whiteoak” (which was on Centerlight back in 2003) with a full band arrangement Mighty cool!

New Hulihees Studio Track Posted

November 6th, 2007

Always wondered what those pesky Hulihees would sound like in the studio? Well, if you didn’t already hear the latest single featured on Used Wigs Radio podcast #38, then wonder no more! The Hulihees site has been taken over by fearless leader “Handsome” Ron Foligno - and we’re all better off for it! First on his list was to get a tasty new track up on the website for your enjoyment - and that track, “Don’t Be Mad”, can now be downloaded on the media page of the Hulihees site. Have fun!

Former Levelheads Working Together Again!

October 24th, 2007

In a reunion of sorts, bass player Jim Smith officially re-entered the fold this past week when he stopped by to lay down some bass tracks for “Legacy”, a song that we used to play with the Levelheads that is being prepared for the second Mattowax EP along with a bunch of other old standards. Oh yeah, as an aside, the first Mattowax EP is still being mixed but is closer than ever to being DONE. In a few weeks we should have samples up on the site and soon after it will be available for purchase and download.

Anyway - back to Jim - this is significant because it’s the first time that the four original Levelheads have worked together on new studio recordings since 2004, and the first time we’ve really played together since a few scattered shows in the summer of 2006. Lots of good things should be happening in the coming months involving these and other musicians, so there’s a lot going on. Thanks for taking the ride with us!

Russ Joins Obedia Affiliate Team

October 19th, 2007

What is Obedia? Well, if you’re a musician and have been doing the digital thing for any length of time, you know how maddening technology issues can be, or what it can be like trying to tweak the technology to get it to do what you want. I’ve spent countless head-scratching hours over the years trying to figure out what these guys seem to know how to do intuitively - so when given the chance to be part of the their affiliate team, I gladly lent my name to the cause! I would only endorse people who are absolute pros and “good folk” - and these guys pass with flying colors. In fact, a testimonial I wrote is right on their home page!

So, for your multimedia and especially audio-based head scratchers, check ‘em out - and tell them who sent you!
